¹³ But I said, “Alas, Sovereign Lord! The prophets^(A) keep telling them, ‘You will not see the sword or suffer famine.^(B) Indeed, I will give you lasting peace^(C) in this place.’”

¹⁴ Then the Lord said to me, “The prophets are prophesying lies^(D) in my name. I have not sent^(E) them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions,^(F) divinations,^(G) idolatries^[a] and the delusions of their own minds. ¹⁵ Therefore this is what the Lord says about the prophets who are prophesying in my name: I did not send them, yet they are saying, ‘No sword or famine will touch this land.’ Those same prophets will perish^(H) by sword and famine.^{(I) 16} And the people they are prophesying to will be thrown out into the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and sword. There will be no one to bury^(J) them, their wives, their sons and their daughters.^(K) I will pour out on them the calamity they deserve.^(L)

⁶ And you, Pashhur, and all who live in your house will go into exile to Babylon. There you will die and be buried, you and all your friends to whom you have prophesied^(A) lies.’”

¹⁶ Therefore this is what the Lord says: ‘I am about to remove you from the face of the earth.^(A) This very year you are going to die,^(B) because you have preached rebellion^(C) against the Lord.’”

¹⁷ In the seventh month of that same year, Hananiah the prophet died.^(A)

³² this is what the Lord says: I will surely punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his descendants.^(A) He will have no one left among this people, nor will he see the good^(B) things I will do for my people, declares the Lord, because he has preached rebellion^(C) against me.’”

³ And if anyone still prophesies, their father and mother, to whom they were born, will say to them, ‘You must die, because you have told lies^(A) in the Lord’s name.’ Then their own parents will stab the one who prophesies.^(B)
